Country Music Hall of Fame legend Ray Price has pancreatic cancer.
The 86-year-old singer announced that he is battling the disease in an interview with the San Antonio Express-News last month. He said a routine operation to remove gall stones led to the discovery of the cancer. Price refused the surgery to remove the cancerous pancreas, opting instead to take chemotherapy at a cancer center in Houston.
"The doctor said that every man will get cancer if he lives to be old enough," Price told the newspaper, adding, "I don't know why I got it. I ain't old."
The superstar reported that the six months of chemo have apparently stopped the growth of the tumor, and says he feels fine despite the treatment and the diagnosis. "I'm not looking for sympathy," he said. "That's just the way it is."
Keep this country giant in your prayers.
